Meet the Kassel Team

The Kassel Mechanical management team has built a foundation upon its members’ diverse backgrounds in operational, financial, and investment management in order to establish a track record of success.

Board of Directors

Thomas Werner

CEO, Chairman of the Board

Mr. Werner co-founded Kassel in early 2010 and laid the groundwork for what the company is today. Under his leadership, Kassel Equity, our real estate division, completed nearly 250 single-family home fix-and-flip transactions and approximately 25 commercial redevelopments in the office, multifamily, and industrial spaces between 2010 and 2017. From 2016 to 2022, Kassel acquired and organized a dozen companies in the MEPF subcontracting space, creating what is now Kassel Mechanical.

Mr. Werner graduated from Muskingum College with a bachelor’s in physics and minors in math and chemistry. He also earned a master’s in mechanical engineering from Youngstown State University.

Brett Motherwell

President, Vice Chairman of the Board

As one of the Managing Partners of Kassel Mechanical, Mr. Motherwell oversees business development, new market development, and sourcing of capital or business partnerships.

In 2015, Mr. Motherwell and fellow Managing Partner of Kassel, Mr. Werner, started the division of Kassel focused on acquiring specialty contracting businesses in the areas of commercial, industrial, and residential HVAC, electrical, plumbing and fire suppression. The investment focus was initially concentrated in Central Ohio’s construction market, which was poised for solid growth and the type of innovation Kassel sought to create. Under their leadership, Kassel has since acquired numerous operating businesses and accelerated the growth of its portfolio holdings from an initial start of $6M in revenue to now more than $80M and growing.

Prior to entering the business world, Mr. Motherwell studied at Boston College with a triple major focus on finance, marketing, and general management.
